These applications will have permission to access and collect user information. Information such as browser activity and history, which is then used to generate targeted advertisements on Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer. Collected user information may also be distributed to third-party mailing lists; resulting in unwanted email spam, junk mail, and telephone calls from telemarketers.
Advertisements display by this program are often identified by text that says something similar to “Ads by Genesis,” although these advertisements may be served by additional third-party adware and advertising platforms.
Genesis malware has been known to cause suspicious activity while installed. The application may orchestrate a large amount of tasks that can negatively affect the operating of a personal computer. In most cases real-time security products will notice the suspicious activity and will remove the program.
The Genesis program primarily installs alongside third-party freeware and shareware. In some cases a user may be given the opportunity to accept or decline an offer to install this program; However, the request to decline is often ignored.
