PCKeeper by Kromtech Alliance (also known as PCKeeper Live and PCKeeper Antivirus) is a Windows optimizer and protection suite with a questionable online reputation [1][2][3][4][5][6].
Scan results presented by PCKeeper claimed that a large amount of items were found on our test machine that indicate that our system may be at a high risk of computer crashes, unwanted system errors, and drastically increased startup time. However, the program did not detail what the errors were or what items it found are. It did tell us that it found 1 ‘unknown’ security issue on a system that should result in a much larger amount of security errors.
PCKeeper is promoted as a free product, but it is not actually free to use. It also causes multiple pop-ups on Windows desktop [6][7].
Many internet users have claimed that PCKeeper installed to their computers without consent or knowledge. This may be because the program is known to bundle with and be promoted by third-party freeware and sometimes potentially unwanted programs (PUPs). Users may be given a choice to download and install PCKepper and other programs during the installation process of third-party freeware.
How to remove PCKeeper
1. Access Windows Start Menu and navigate to the Control Panel.
2. On Windows Control Panel, click Uninstall a program or Add and remove a program in the Programs section.
3. In the list of installed programs, search for PCKeeper and other unwanted programs. Once an unwanted program is located, double click the unwanted program or select it with your mouse and click the Uninstall button.
4. Restart your computer.
