Softtunes virus (Search/Toolbar)
The Softtunes virus (also found as the Soft Tunes virus, Softtunes Search virus, Softtunes redirect virus, Softtunes Toolbar for IE, Softtunes Toolbar virus, and other terms; though not technically a virus) is potential malware categorized as a browser hijacker and spyware that installs to a Microsoft Windows computer and attaches to Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Internet Explorer as a browser add-on, browser helper object (BHO), and extension with or without user consent.
The Softtunes add-on and extension or other item, including software used to promote Softtunes search engine/search.conduit.com (and other websites) such as Softtunes Toolbar s changes internet browser settings including the home page (start page) and internal browser search engine (default, managed, and provided search engines; causing affected browsers to redirect to http://www.search.conduit.com/ and start-up on the Softtunes search engine when users open a new browser window or browser tab. *The Softtunes website can be identified by an image of a duck, chicken, or fish.
Once software used to promote the Softtunes redirect is installed (such as Softtunes Toolbar) the application will begin to replace existing internet browser settings, install additional software, and collect sensitive user information including data manually submitted online such as your name, home address, telephone number, email address, browser activity and history, and more.
