What is Total System Care?

Total System Care by SafeBytes Software Inc. is a non-beneficial Windows Optimizer that causes many problems for computer users. Malware and Security analysts have flagged this possibly rogue software as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) in the scareware category of computer threats due to aggressive marketing tactics and misleading system scan results.

The Total System Care virus (although not technically a computer virus) is known to cause many problems relating to the invasion of privacy, targeted advertisements, misleading registry scans, misleading marketing tactics, and decrease in system performance and loss of internet connection. Furthermore, if potential Total System Care scareware is installed, the program will automatically and without direct authorization enable remote access to the computer.

The scan results will always claim that a very large amount of errors are found during the scan and that the System Health is critical. The program may state “Your system has 784 registry errors affecting your PC performance” and will make it impossible to close the program, only giving the options to Register Now, Review Full Scan Details, or Minimize. This is why many analysts and vendors have this program listed as rogue or scareware. These scan results are designed to scare victims into purchasing the full version of this misleading software.

Many users have also found potential Total System Care malware installed onto their Windows computer without consent. This is because this program may include themselves in suspicious marketing packages that allow it to bundle with third-party items.

In some cases users will be presented with the option to install Total System Care and other items, including browser add-ons and extensions during the installation process of third-party software from websites such as download.com; However, the request to decline the offer is often ignored or presented in a strategic location.

CCleaner can be used to automatically repair internet browser settings, system settings, and uninstall unwanted software.

1. Install the free or paid version of CCleaner by Piriform.

2. Once installed, open the program and navigate to Cleaner > Windows/Applications and click the Analyze button. Afterwards, click the Run Cleaner button on the bottom right of the program interface.

3. Next, navigate to Tools > Startup and search through each tab starting from windows, internet explorer, etc., all the way to Content Menu, for additional suspicious entries and click Disable and Delete once anything is found.

How to uninstall Total System Care

1. Access Windows Start Menu and navigate to the Control Panel (on Windows 8, right click the bottom left corner to access the Windows 8 Start Menu).
