What is Chroomium Browser?
Chroomium Browser virus is a term used by many to identify a questionable alternative internet browser to Google Chrome. Chroomium Browser utilizes Google’s open source Chromium project in order to appear like a custom version of Google Chrome. However, this internet browser is not Google Chrome and is in no way associated with Google.
Chroomium Browser is controlled by a third-party that wants to generate revenue from cost-per-click advertisements, sponsored search results, data collection, and other resources.
The program will interfere with other internet browsers on the machine which it infects. For example, it can replace your browser settings, remove your browser add-ons and extensions, and ultimately uninstall other browsers on your machine.
Chroomium Browser can also generate pop-up advertisements across Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer, and other popular internet browsers. Chroomium Browser ads can typically be identified by small text on the advertisements that say “Ads by Chroomium Browser.” If you see these advertisements while you browse the web it means that your computer has contracted a specific ad-supported program.
Advertisements displayed by this adware can appear when you hover over an image, when you hover over a text hyperlink (in-text advertisement), or at random times in your web browser. Furthermore, Chroomium Browser adware may also produce pop-under advertisements that take-up an entire browser window. Internet browsers are usually good at blocking many pop-under advertisements by default so users may not even be aware that these ads are being produced.

1. The first step to remove Chroomium Browser is to uninstall the program from Windows Control Panel if there is a usable uninstall entry. To uninstall Chroomium Browser go to Start Menu > Control Panel > Uninstall a Program (or Add and Remove Programs) and search for Chroomium Browser and other suspicious programs in the list. 8. Download and Install HitmanPro by Surfright.
9. Open HitmanPro and click Next to start scanning your computer. *If you are using the free version you may chose to create a copy or perform a one-time scan.
10. When the HitmanPro scan is complete click the Next button and then click the Reboot button. *To activate the free version of HitmanPro: enter your email address twice and click the Activate button.
11. The fifth step to remove Chroomium Browser is to clean-up and repair settings with CCleaner.
12. Download and Install CCleaner by Piriform.
13. Open CCleaner and go to the main Cleaner screen. Click the Analyze button. When the process is complete, click the Run Cleaner button on the bottom right of the program interface.
14. Go to Tools > Startup and search for suspicious entries in each tab starting from Windows all the way to Content Menu. If you find anything suspicious click it and click the Delete button to remove it.
