Supercell’s arrogance and stupidity empowers the ‘account phishing ban scam’

clash of clans account phishing ban scam

Supercell has lost interest in providing support for their once-popular game Clash of Clans. Despite your town hall level or the amount of money you spent on the game, it seems like Supercell does not care about you unless you are a popular YouTuber who exclusively publishes videos about Clash of Clans or you’re in a clan Supercell actively promotes on all their social media channels such as OneHive.

With this being said, don’t let Supercell know that you lost your Clash of Clans account or it is highly likely that they will permanently ban you for “account phishing.” Don’t contact Supercell support about a friend who lost their account either.

What’s the account phishing ban scam?

The ‘Clash of Clans account phishing ban scam’ is a name given to a scam in which a third-party asks another party to contact Supercell on their behalf in order to help the third-party obtain access to a lost account. The third-party provides information to the victim about a real account but leaves out details. The victim then contacts Supercell to get help to recover the allegedly lost account and in return, the victim’s Clash of Clans account gets banned for account phishing.

The name of the scam can also refer to act of Supercell banning people who seek to recover their own lost accounts without a legitimate purpose. In turn, this can result in a loss of money for the victim who paid money to play or upgrade their Clash of Clans account.

The word “scam” is attached to this because it can lead to a catastrophic loss of funds for the victim who spent money on the game, loss of Google or Game Center (Apple ID) account, and closure of bank account based on security concerns if disputes are filed.

Supercell is the sole party responsible for banning victims of the scam.

What happens if I contact Supercell about a lost account?

If you contact Supercell about a lost Clash of Clans account your Clash of Clans account is likely to be permanently banned from the game for account phishing. If you try to sign into your account you will be greeted by a message that says “YOU HAVE BEEN BANNED!” and further explains that “Your account has been banned permanently due to Account phishing attempt(s).”

You will no longer be able to log into your Clash of Clans account and account will be erased from the game, no one else in the game will be able to locate your base.

If you contact Supercell using the form on their website, they will instruct you to contact them through the game on your account. Once you contact them through the game in regards to a lost account they will instruct you to create a Supercell ID (if you don’t already have one) and ask you a series of questions such as “when was the last time you signed into the account, what devices did you use to sign into the accounts, what is the Gmail address you used to sign into the account, and approximately how many gems did the account have.”

You can answer the questions perfectly, to the best of your knowledge, or tell them that you are unsure and you will most likely get the same outcome. They’ll ban you for account phishing.

Supercell does not actually know some of the answers to some of the questions they ask you. For example, they do not know which Gmail account you may have used to sign in, they do not know which devices you used to sign in in the past with a Gmail account or Apple ID, and so they cannot give you that information or acknowledge if your answers are correct or not. Instead, it appears that your Gmail account information is encrypted and they can only see scrambled data.

All that money you spent upgrading your Clash of Clans account is gone and you better not dispute the charges with your bank unless you want Google or Apple to seek the funds back and terminate your account. Your bank might even be suspicious of all the disputes and close your bank account for security purposes.

What to do if you lost your account

The best thing you can do if you lost your account is try to figure out the information you need to log into it on your own. However, there are several other solutions if you lost your Clash of Clans account and want to recover it:

Google: If you are unable to sign into your account using your Google account it is recommended to talk to the Clash of Clans forum community to find the best solution. If you no longer have access to the Google account, visit Google’s account recovery service.

Apple (Game Center): If you are unable to sign into your account using your Game Center account it is recommended to talk to the Clash of Clans forum community to find the best solution. If you have lost your Game Center or Apple ID, ask Apple for help.

If you are advised to contact Supercell, make sure to know:

  1. Exact Username and Clan Name of your lost Village (or player tag if possible)
  2. Exact Town Hall level of your lost Village
  3. Exact XP level of your lost Village
  4. Explain how you lost the Village

However, please be aware that answering this information correctly can still lead to your account getting banned by Supercell due to their ‘arrogance and stupidity.’
