    Killed …. 😉

  3. Olga says:

    Hi

I had to disable few applications on Mozzilla one with Codec and something with FLash Shockwave and then run again the CC cleaner for Cache and cookies , but it worked!

    Thanks a bunch!

a file name to add to that list is “Smoother Web 1.1”

  5. CurlyDog48 says:

    Clearing cookies worked for Firefox.
For Chrome, nothing worked, until I disabled each extension one at a time and tested. Turned out to be MapQuest Button. Disabled and removed, every web page is clean now.

  6. Sloth says:

Thanks! This really helped as i would always get annoying hyper link kind of things popping up all over the place!

  7. Pascal says:

Thank you so much, both AntiVir and Dr. Web couldn’t identify the problem. You made my day!

  9. Kathryn says:

    Omigosh, thank you so much!

  10. Klara says:

Thank you very much. I was having trouble finding the malware because it had a different name than any of the names listed above, even though its description fit perfectly. The extention I had was called “Video Player” and I was able to remove it eventually with your help.

  11. Adriana says:

Thank you so much for your detailed explanation. Apparently the spyware I had was called lucky leap rather than text enhance, but I managed to remove it with your help.

  17. Dan says:

It started for me when I installed Adblock Plus on Firefox. It stopped when I removed Adblock Plus from Firefox. I figured that was how Adblock Plus was making money.?? I also cleared my cookies at the same time. Just disabling Adblock Plus did not work.

  18. Anonymous says:

Thank you! This was very helpful. The Chrome extension “StartNow” was the culprit for me.

  19. Anonymous says:

Add “SportHunter TV App” or “HD TV Sports” to the list

  20. Anonymous says:

Thanks! My Addon was called Save Now

  21. Anonymous says:

Key Download was what it was called on my system

  22. Anonymous says:

Thank you! It worked perfectly on Google Chrome – I had the program “browse 2 save” installed – apparently

  23. Anonymous says:

Thank you soo much. I thought that I was the only one having this problem. Just delete anything you make sure it’s off of your browser, not just disabled just for safety.

  24. Anonymous says:

Thank you, great info. you saved my time and my mac :))

  25. Nikki says:

Ive discovered the extension AddLyrics on firefox also causes this problem as it has text enhance in it.

  26. MJon says:

Coupon Companion is another Google Chrome extension that Text Enhance is embedded in, if anyone wants to add it to the list.

  27. annmarielawler says:

thank you soh much. this was annoying me for ages. wish i’d done it sooner

  28. Anonymous says:

I found my pain in the butt for text enhance in the FireFox addons listed as Selectionlinks.
looks very harmless, but after diabling it and then removing it.. No More Text Enhance.

    • Anonymous says:

As did I. I took a chance and deleted before I came across this site. Seems to be resolved.
Still running a full malwarebytes scan system scan just to be sure.

Hi Solved my problems – “savebyclick 1” was the problem on my PC – found in the FF Add On Extensions.

  32. scottlorenz says:

Great article thanks. Looks like there so much underhanded dealing built into so may programs that you can’t trust any of these folks!

  33. Steve says:

Just ran across a case where a client’s infected browser inserted a script block in a WordPress page which called the Text-enhance JavaScript directly. So this has gone beyond just a browser hijack.

  34. Anonymous says:

Thank you so much! All I had to do was clear my cache (Google Chrome) and end some extension called “Add Lyrics” which seems to have installed itself. It was affecting a couple of other sites for me but everything is back to normal now, thanks again.

  35. Dani Coward says:

This Text Enhancing has been bugging me for a while on Chrome and IE and I finally looked into what it is and how to get rid of it. Following your steps I found the SmartNow extension and deleted that sucker! Thanks for this great article!! However, I am having issues in Step 4 of Installing AdBlocker. I enter “Text-Enhance.com” or “textsrv.com” in the Domain text field, but it won’t let me click Block It! Am I missing a step somewhere…?

  36. Allan says:

Another thing to add to the list of extensions is “onetab”.

  37. Alan says:

I found this on my computer today (1-14-13) and after removing the “SEND TO KINDLE” app from Amazon this went away. So anyone installing the SEND TO KINDLE app for Firefox be aware that Amazon installs this adware crap (text-enhance adware) without your knowledge. Nowhere is this addition prominently displayed in the download that this crap is installed along with the Amazon Firefox addon.

Awesome! Thank you! I was absolutely panicking when I thought my own website was pirated and was lucky to find this website with absolutely perfect well presented instructions.

  43. Michael Downey says:

Thanks so much for such a thorough and explicit list of removal options for Enhanced Adware. All options are so detailed and clear. Quick suggestion? You might want to place Option ^ at the top of the list as Option 1. I was shocked to read that simply using system restore would actually remove imbedded adware–but I tried that first and it worked like a charm. Excellent work and much appreciated!

    Hi
I had CouponDropDown on my Safari under MacOS 10.6.8. and the extension that created it called “torrenthandler”.

  46. Anonymous says:

    Thank you for this information!

  47. Anonymous says:

Great article…it has infected all of my browsers, yet when I look in the extensions folder, I find nothing.

  48. Ike says:

Does anybody have any details on who or what company is behind Text Enhance? Where are they based? What is their address? I haven’t been able to find much so far. Their Web site is extremely unhelpful — they clearly don’t want to be found. Let’s track these bastards down!

  49. Anonymous says:

I found my in an extension call ‘selectionlinks’

  50. Andrea says:

Seems to have worked. It was infecting Firefox only and I didn’t see any unusual extensions or addons. I deleted all cookies and ran Malwarebytes. Added the two websites as exceptions in the cookie list. Restarted Firefox. So far so good.

  51. Michelle says:

I agree, totally awesome and I thank you so much for posting this. Kudos for your help!

  52. john says:

    AWESOME. Thank you so much!

  53. Espinoth says:

There’s a new name for the text enhance extension, discovered it in my Chrome browser: Privacy SafeGuard 1.1

    • Espinoth says:

This one is even more invasive than before, because it will randomly open a new tab in your browser, and FORCE you to view, even if you’re using another program. The original url always starts with ssl.privacysafeguard (I can’t remember the rest), but quickly changes to a random spam website (The most common of which seems to be adultfriendfinder.).

Thanks so much. It was really easy to fix. I went into Firefox tools menu, then Add-ons, and found “OneClickDownloader” that I didn’t put there. I deleted it. And everything is fixed. Thanks again.

  66. Note it was called “1Click Downloader” on my Chrome extensions. Turning it off and uninstalling it took care of the problem.

  67. Anonymous says:

well, it seems to work (for now) with the shockwave, regedit and IE textsrv.com removals and stuff. I siil think it was shockwave which installed it last month…..

  69. Ravi Shankar says:

But the url used on my Chrome was trkjmp . com – Found the adress by using the “Inspect element” function (right-click the link) in Crome. No other browser was infected on my PC (Opera, IE9, Safari, Firefox)

  85. Wanderlei says:

here it was inside “Local Player” chrome extension, an extension to play mp3 files inside chrome 🙁
    thanks for your detailed explanation!

  86. Ann says:

Thanks for all the detailed explanation. For me, it only took uninstalling a program (I think it was called Big Deals) which had an install date about the time I started having problems.

  87. This is a damn annoying bit of adware/malware……my particular version came under the name “CouponDropDown”, but as someone commented below, I simply removed the “CouponDropDown” program in Add/Remove Programs and it remove the Firefox/Chrome extensions automatically!

  88. Anonymous says:

Thank you very much Sean Doyle

  89. Maura says:

  90. shelly says:

Thanks for the helpful article. I found “I want that” on my mom’s computer’s list of installed programs so I uninstalled it and it automatically deleted the extension and everything to do with Text Enhance, it was way easier than doing it all manually.

  93. Nicole O says:

And it was also in my list of installed programs too!

  94. Nicole O says:

Just removed my Text Enhance malware – you can add to the list of possible names ‘Deals Plugin’. One has to wonder why the anti-virus software I spent good money on didn’t pick it up…..I have a feeling my PC got infected after I purchased a cheap mouse when my normal one broke. Thanks for the removal procedure, was of great assistance.

Hi Sean, I found VideoFileDownload in my extensions, AND in my installed programs under VideoFileDownload. I uninstalled both.. Nasty, annoying bugger. Why isn’t Panda antivirus detecting this? i searched their blog for discussions about it, and nothing found.

  103. Tim says:

Thanks! Being a webmaster myself it was irritating when I was working on my page and random links I hadnt created were all of a sudden there!

  105. Anthony says:

…or am I suppose to modify the ‘value data’ to correspond to what has been listed?

  106. Anthony says:

Could anybody lend a hand…? Near the end where it says “Delete Text-enhance.com registries” and provides a list of things.

When it says, for example, ” “CertificateRevocation” = ’0′ ” on the list — what is the 0 referring to?

I’m uncertain of whether I should delete these files no matter what or only if they’re displaying a certain value… any help would be greatly appreciated!

  107. Anonymous says:

  112. Anonymous says:

this works thanks text enhance is gone it was hiding in the google chrome ext. part under i want this… i didnt want it LOL thanks to u its gone now

  113. Anonymous says:

In chrome all i had to do is remove ‘Codec-v’ and text enhance was gone. Dealply is a service i wouldnt want to blame because its an alright service and i’ve had dealply long before text enhance raped everyone’s browser. I got text enhance after installing the NCH Software suite which is freeware. All you really have to do is remove the extensions that don’t have icons one after the other because they are never important unless they actually helped you out in an obvious way.

    • Sean Doyle says:

I’m glad to hear you got rid of Text Enhance.
Dealply is bundled with a plethora of different malware infections. I would defiantly blame Dealply for any adware/hijacker type symptoms. I have written about so many coexisting malware apps that are bundled with Dealply and other ware distributed as freeware. Unfortunately this is how many freeware providers generate revenue.

  114. Eric M says:

I almost never leave a comment – but this page is just too good/helpful! 🙂 For the record, I was using Firefox, and it was ‘disguised’ under the Extension “I Want This”, which was (even more helpfully) on your list of possible names. Great work, guys! You have a new, interested, indebted, unique visitor…!

    -Eric

Spams are the most common issue that is troubling the network users. It not only reduces the bandwidth but also like viruses, spread rapidly and infectious.

  158. Max says:

    remove vid-saver plugin/extension in chrome/firefox

  159. Anonymous says:

at least on my my machine, I learned that this rotten piece $hit text enhance disguised itself as Vid Saver extension in chrome and the same Vid saver add-on in Firefox. Its possible that on your machine it may be disguising itself using another extension/plugin.

    Remove these extensions/plugins.

    • Anonymous says:

same here, it disguised itself as Vid saver on chrome. The irony is I saw text enhance advertise three times whilst reading this article :S

  164. Peter G. Williams says:

Text Enhance showed up for me today in IE9 under Win7 64bit Home Premium. I checked the programs I’ve installed in the last week and it was just Toad for MySQL and VMWare Player – both of which have good pedigrees.

Also there was nothing unexpected in the “Add-ons” (show all add-ons). However, disabling Flash did prevent it from working, but I don’t consider that a valid workaround because some of the sites I use require Flash.

The fact that Flash is facilitating Text Enhance’s operation put me onto a workaround which was to look at the Flash Global Storage Settings which you get to via this webpage:

    http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager03.html

And then uncheck the box which says “Allow third-party Flash content to store data on your computer”

That seems to have prevented Text Enhance from operating on two machines I’ve looked at, without having to disable Flash entirely. I don’t know if there’s still something installed on my machine – neither AVG or AdAware picked it up at any point in a full scan.

  165. Tabu says:

I FOUND IT! it’s a codec file…i disabled it and tested it in google then just deleted it. Had to do it for ie as well, but YAY! it’s gone :)…i hope

What an awesome site for help!!! I could understand the instructions even tho i’m not techie…THANKS BUNCHES!

  166. PeterGilroy says:

Well thank you very much, this website was a big help.

  167. Stine says:

    OMG thank you soooo much!!

  168. iatraveler says:

So… I don’t have any of those plug ins- except for Shockwave, which updated yesterday, which, coincidentally, is when I noticed this hideous Text Enhance. I’ve searched my files, add ons, plug ins and the only thing that it could be is Shockwave. So, if I can’t turn off Shockwave, what are my options? Thanks for any advice!

  169. Ayham says:

    – close all Internet browsers
AND then will show for you many theBflix files in many places of C: station
    – remove all these files
    good luck

  184. Wow, thank you! I hated text-enhance so much.

  185. Adblock for chrome works sooo well

  186. Milo Kuger says:

I went through all steps on internet browsers installed on my system just to be safe a few weeks ago and I have had no mishaps so far.
Thank you very much for the clarity.

  187. Hannah says:

Thank you soooo much. I have had it bugging me for what feels like forever. and now it is gone and I am happy. 🙂

  188. thanks says:

thank you for this information. had this for the last week or so and was getting pretty fucking annoyed.

  189. Thank you SO SO much for this post. I got rid of that nasty thing.

  190. Canannada says:

JESUS CHRIST thank you so much, I could murder someone over this fucking Text Enhance thing. I found it in my add-ons and suddenly ON MY DESKTOP as Codec-V. Thanks for all the info!

  191. RAS says:

    Deleting Codec-C worked instantly.

  192. Keef says:

Only noticed this ‘text-enhance’ last few days and just thought it was a new thing on some sites until realised it was happening on every site I visited. Thanks to this page I have sorted it quickly – did the Tools > Manage Add ons for IE as above and found it as ‘I Want This’ (installed a week ago, somehow). Disabled it. Then went to Add/Remove programs where it was also sitting so have deleted it from there. Wanted to close down all IE browser windows to finish the uninstall so reckoned that was a good sign. Now all seems ok 🙂
I use lots of different browsers so be warned it may not just be a browser issue….

  193. jimmy d alessio says:

    codec-c
    quicktime player

    thank you very much

  194. The Tate says:

    Good Lord Frickin THANK YOU!!!!!

  195. Shroomie says:

Thank you so much. I had no idea how this thing got onto my computer in the first place and I had no idea how to get it off. It was under another name! I was so mad. I think it’s finally gone.

  196. xino says:

    those f*king pricks!

    that sh* keeps coming back!

  197. Lesley says:

Thanks to Neil, I think I found it in Firefox in Shockwave 11.1.102.62. Not seeing the TE links, but unfortunately, no Shockwave applications show up now…

  198. Tim says:

I’ve tried to uninstall the program (I’m on Windows 7 with IE9) but can’t locate it in the list of software to uninstall. Where can I locate it?

  199. Shauna says:

Yeeeeeeahh Buddy!!! Thank you so much for this! I found another possible name from TE in my extensions, sent it to you for investigation. Thought I was going crazy seeing it everywhere! Posted this article’s link on my blog.

    Great post!

  200. Neil says:

I found it in Chrome under “CodecC 1.0” and in Firefox under Shockwave Flash 11.2.202.233

  201. Emory Holst says:

Finally figured my own text enhance problem, which seems to be different than everyone here. You can add “notepad++” to your list of infected software. It was hiding in shockwave flash like others. Uninstalling “notepad++” in the control panel fixed my own text enhance nightmare. This is one hour i want back hah! Anyway add Notepad++ to your list above and save people some time.

    • Will says:

i use google chrome and have not found any of the listed extensions installed on the extensions page or in my add/delete programs in control panel….this is really getting on my nerves…any ideas?

      • Neil says:

Start with the extensions and just go down the line disabling one by one until you find it. I had two that weren’t on the list.

  202. redthumb1 says:

no,no. re: firefox —– switching off the ‘shockwave flash’ plugin did get rid of the TE sh*t, but also stopped my flashplayer working
SO i switched to the ‘extentions’ tab in my add-ons manager, and removed and extension called ‘bflix 5.0’
thats worked so far…but i aint jumping for joy yet. give it a day or two with no infection 1st……

  203. redthumb1 says:

    i run firefox on vista
    deleteted cookies
disabled the ‘shockwave flash 11.2 etc’ add on in the manager
uninstalled ‘bfix’ prog via me control panel
havent tried explorer yet,so will c, but worked for firefox
    CUD KISS YOU MATE!
not very encouraging in FFox manager that the thing can still be seen(altho disabled) would be nice to just strait delete it imediately maybe FFox 12.1 will sort that out?

  204. ashley says:

    Thanks for all your help!
