SpeedBit.com is a legitimate website that offers a freeware and paid download boost program. The downside to using SpeedBit and The SpeedBit Toolbar (Community Toolbar) is that Speedbit has been reported to affect browser settings without direct permission. This is why SpeedBit and the SpeedBit Toolbar are both referred to as  browser hijackes. The SpeedBit Toolbar is a browser helper object that SpeedBit utilizes to alter internet browser settings such as the Home Page and Provided Search Engine. Since SpeedBit affects these settings, internet searches and URLs typed into the browser address bar redierct to Speedbit.com based websites such as home.speedbit.com, restore.speedbit.com, and start.speedbit.com.

The SpeedBit Toolbar as previously addressed is a browser helper object. Such browser helper objects are often used strategically similar to adware and spyware. They are capable of tracing, tracking, and collecting user activity including internet history, location, and other data.

The SpeedBit Toolbar is allegedly used to create an online community. This community tactic is known as a marketing list. Your information is traced, tracked, store, distributed, and used without direct permission.

SpeedBit.com uses several webpages to produce a series of different search results. Some search pages such as start.speedbit.com (pictured above, first) are used to crawl Amazon, and others such as restore.speedbit.com crawl Google, Yahoo, Bing, and Ask (pictured below, second).

2. On the Extensions and Plugin tabs find the SpeedBit Toolbar and remove it.

Microsoft Internet Explorer

1. Click Tools and select Manage add-ons.

2. On the Toolbars and Extensions tab find the SpeedBit Toolbar and remove it.

Google Chrome

1. Click on the Wrench or 3 bar icon next to the address bar and navigate to Tools > Extensions.

2. Fine the SpeedBit Toolbar and click the trash can icon next to it to remove it.

5. Repair Home Page

Use these steps to remove SpeedBit.com websites from your home page. Remember… SpeedBit.com uses a variety of webpages.

1. Click Tools and select Options.

2. On the General tab remove SpeedBit.com and click Restore to Default or add you preferred URL.

Microsoft Internet Explorer

1. Click Tools and select Internet Options.

2. On the General tab remove SpeedBit.com and click Restore to Default or add your preferred URL.

Google Chrome

1. Click on the Wrench or 3 bar icon next to the address bar and select Settings.

2. Under the On startup section click Set pages.

3. Click the X next to SpeedBit.com, then add or keep your preferred URL such as botcrawl.com.

6. Repair Provided Search Engines

Use the steps below to stop your browsers internal search from using SpeedBit.com based search engines. As stated in the Home Page steps, keep in mind that SpeedBit.com uses a variety of search engines.

Mozilla Firefox

1. Click the small search arrow or magnify glass near the search bar at the top of the internet browser.

2. Select Manage search engines…

3. Select SpeedBit.com and click remove. If you don’t see it. SpeedBit.com may also be set as default or listed under Other search engines.

Microsoft Internet Explorer

1. Click Tools and select Manage add-ons.

2. Navigate to the Search Providers list.

3. Select SpeedBit.com and click the Remove button.

Google Chrome

1. Click the 3 bar or wrench settings icon and select Settings.

2. In the Search section select the Manage search engines… button.

3. Remove SpeedBit.com by clicking the X next to it when highlighted.

If  SpeedBit.com or other SpeedBit websites are set as the default search engine, add and chose another search engine (such as Google.com) as a default engine by selecting it (Google.com) and clicking the make default transparent blue box that appears shown in the image below.

7. Clear Cache And Cookies

If you visited SpeedBit.com and fear you and your data is being traced, tracked, and used against your consent it is recommended to delete your browser data. You can remove your browser cache and cookie files in your browser’s preference or settings options.
